Menu Plan Monday

I went grocery shopping today.
I am trying to put myself on a strict budget.
I shop for my husband, daughter, and myself.
My husband and I like everything.
Our daughter wants only healthy foods.
We compromise.   Sort of.

My budget today was $120 (in cash).
I spent $138.51.
(I should leave my debit card at home).

I could have done better.
I didn't use any coupons or stick to the sales.
I really do need to work on this.

Today I organzied my pantry, cupboards, and refrigerator.
This is step one for me.

I just got a bread machine, so I needed some items to get started,
like bread flour and yeast.

I also splurged on some special meats that my son likes
(here lives above our garage) in case he comes over.
baby-back ribs $12
quarter spiral ham $7
bottom round roast $6

I will get more than one meal out of each of these.
(yes we eat chicken,
as a matter of fact we ate chicken almost every day last week, hence, no chicken this week).

Here is my meal plan for the week
(I start on Sunday)

Sunday - Spiral Ham, Scalloped Potatoes, Broccoli, Special Winter
                Bread (bread machine)

Monday - Baby Back Ribs, baked beans, cole slaw, bread

Tuesday - Roast Beef, mashed potatoes, gravy, carrot casserole, dinner rolls

Wednesday - Cheese Enchiladas, salad,

Thursday - Beef Stroganoff (beef leftover from Tues), egg noodles,
                  broccoli, carrot casserole (leftover), bread

Friday - leftovers on your own (everyone is working or out)

Saturday - Homemade Pizza, salad

lunch - salads, tuna, chopped ham sandwich (leftover ham), baked potatoes with broccoli (leftover) and cheese, hot dogs, clam chowder, pus any leftovers
breakfast -  cereal, oatmeal (weekdays), omelets, french toast (weekend)
snacks -   fruit, cottage cheese, yogurt, cheese, crackers, salsa & tortilla chips, pretzels & hummus, cookies (homemade), granola type bars

  3. I've found that shopping in bulk really helps me save money when it comes to the grocery store! Being pregnant its hard to afford those expensive health bars, fruit and organic juices!

  4. You know, you may have gone a little over your budget but you got a lot of good food on that trip. I'd be happy to spend $138 at the grocery store. I Have Got To Do Better! So many bloggers are posting their good ideas about shopping right now. They are all helpful ideas. Planning, using the right coupons, and just making sure we don't waste any food are always on my plan. I can definitely improve though.

  6. It looks like a good plan. I extreme coupon and save about 50% on our grocery bill. Once you get a plan down, it will go much faster. You will learn to shop from the sale adds and eat whats on sale that week. I always do a stir fry once a week and use up any meat or veggies before they spoil. Hope you keep posting how you are doing with your budget shopping, I enjoy reading about it.

    1. Dawn, I love the idea for a stir-fry each week to use up leftovers. I want to try an idea from the Tightwad Gazette to just keep adding leftovers to a bowl in the freezer, and then make a soup out of it. I LOVE your blog for decorating ideas, I'll have to search it now for ideas on how to save so much on my grocery bill. I'll be heading over to Cain cabin soon!
