Ikea Ektorp Sofa

We have been saving our pennies to purchase a sofa for our tv room.  This weekend we were finally able to buy our new white Ektorp sofa from Ikea.

It is not a bright white, but sort of a creamy white - which is exactly what I wanted.

Pottery Barn makes a sofa that looks almost identical.  But the Ikea sofa was $799, while the Pottery Barn sofa is a whopping $3849.

This was the room when we moved in.  It had been used as a bedroom.  I thought it was going to be very dark in there.

We painted it "Moonlight White" by Behr.  And boy did it lighten up the room.

Here is what we did with the room
 when we first moved in.

 I actually liked the room,
but it just didn't promote family togetherness.

Only two people could sit in here.

Now we have plenty of seating.

  And this sofa is comfy.
 I mean really comfy.

We couldn't be happier with this sofa.

It meets or exceeds all our expectations.

I found these wonderfully warm blankets at Marshalls for $12.99 & $19.99.

 The pillows and ottoman
are borrowed from the living room.

One of my "thrift store sweater" pillows.

I think I will be repainting the dresser tv stand.

I adore the white with the pine floors.

We had the sofa delivered (for $149).

It came in 4 boxes.

As with almost everything from Ikea, there is a lot of assembly required.

The fabric had to be ironed
(which took a couple of hours).

It was worth every minute we put into it!

    1. It is so comfortable, and I wanted to pick up another blanket at Marshalls (to cover our ottoman), but the $12.99 blankets were all marked $19.99. I think I got a real "steal".

      Thanks for visiting!

  6. So fun to see your sectional, too! I love all your cozy pillows and throws, and too funny a pillow is on my diy list (already have my goodwill sweater) to warm it up for winter. I borrowed a steamer from a friend and it worked great getting out all the wrinkles, it was just a cheapie and worked fine, so I'm thinking I may get one. Love all your rustic touches, too! :)

  10. I love your new couch! It is amazing how large it makes the room look now compared to the before. I have the Ektorp couch and the big chair and ottamon, and the small chair (Tulia or something?) I love them all. I am on a very tight budget and believe it or not I got the couch for $35. Somebody was moving, lucky me. Paid $50 each for the chairs. I have 3 kids, 3 dogs and 3 cats and everyone gave me such a hard time for getting white furniture. I have now had it almost 2 years and it still looks perfect. White makes everything look clean. I wash the covers every few months. Enjoy your new purchase--it looks wonderful!

  14. Fantastic solution for a small room for a family. I have an IKEA Ektorp sofa (straight 3-seater) and I love it. I also purchased a 2nd white slipcover for it. If it helps, here's a hint. When you wash the slipcover, hang it ouside. It's own weight is enough to dry it without wrinkles. If it does need a touchup it can be tossed in the dryer with a damp facecloth and the wrinkles come right out. Much nicer to snuggle on that sofa than iron :-)

  15. Love your room and your new IKEA sofa. I have the loveseat from Pottery barn, but got it on sale and was happy for that. You are right, they are nearly identical. Your room is so inviting and looks so comfy. The floors are gorgeous. I bet you are really enjoying this great room.
It was fun to visit you and your lovely blog.

    1. Thanks for stopping by Celestina. The Pottery Barn model would certainly be my first choice, but with my budget I don't think I will ever own anything except a catalog from Pottery Barn! I do love to get the look for less though.

    1. Hi Anonymous, I sent you a reply from my phone but I'm not sure if you got it. This sofa is actually 3 pieces, but they attach together. It is sold as one sectional sofa for $799 for the white one. They have lots of colors for a little more. I think it would be fine with kids and dogs, but I might avoid the white. They have some cool tans now too. Good luck!

  31. Fate must have directed me to your post because I've been looking for a new sofa/sectional and was considering this one from IKEA. After reading this, I'm convinced to go with this option. First of all, it looks great! Second, you mentioned it's comfortable. Third, I showed it to my hubby and he likes it. The room is really pretty and cozy. Love the floors! I'm really glad I stumbled onto your blog tonight. Thanks so much for helping make my decision. :)

  32. I have an Ikea Ektorp sofa bed in my spare room. We have had it since 2003 and it is still in GREAT shape. I bought it with white and blue stripe slipcovers, but I switched to red corduroy a few years ago. I still have the stripe slipcovers in the attic. In the summer I made white slipcovers for our living room sofa. I love them, but I have to wash them a lot more frequently than we did our off white floral slipcovers.

Your entire look is beautiful. Today is my first visit to your blog, but I will be back.

  34. Your room looks great. Totally my colours too. Love the textures in the pretty pillows and blankets and totally love the pine floors. I want the Ektorp sectional too ($1200 here in Canada) but we need to save more first. For now I lucked out and bought the ikea couch slipcover in white and took a chance on it fitting our custom sofa with a busy print and it did. Have had it for over two years, boys who hang out in barns, eat in the family room, and a chocolate lab too. Nothing the wash won't fix. I'm now following.

I am now following you and would love if you would stop by and visit me sometime.

  37. Like many of the other commenters here, I've been considering getting two of these loveseats from Ikea. I didn't realize you have to put it together though. I live alone, is it something I can do myself? All those boxes have me a little apprehensive. But I love how it looks in your new home!

  41. I too love your room and this sectional and finally purchased it this weekend. However, if you are able to go into an IKEA store to purchase, home delivery starts at 59 dollars even for an entire house of furniture. I also purchased beds and delivery charges to my area were 79 dollars. Online much higher.

  43. Your sofa cushions look more "plump" than the displays at our local Ikea store. Is this how they looked originally or did you add something to make them look fuller? We are replacing our house furniture destroyed by a fire a few months ago and I want this kind of sofa for our not so large living room. Loved the sofa at the store but felt the seat cushions could use a little more fullness. We were told at the store that Ikea offered no option for added filling.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. So sorry that I never responded to this before now! I know it is probably too late for you, but for others reading here, we did not add any filling to the cushions and find that they are very comfortable. They are not "overstuffed" but they seem fine to us. I am so sorry about the fire. My house burned to the ground when I was in 7th grade. I know how difficult things must have been for you. I hope you are doing well now!
