The End of Summer

Today is the official end of summer for me.  Now I know the calendar says it is summer for another month, but school starts tomorrow, at least for the staff.  Yup, summer's over.

When I was growing up, we always started school the Wednesday after Labor Day.  Labor Day was the official end of summer then.  It seems like they are stealing 2 weeks of summer from us.

I have been reading a lot of blogs this summer and have learned that in other parts of the country they have already started school.  It seems way too rushed.  I really miss the lazy days of summer.

Our family has not done much this summer.  We are all working, and my kids did not get a summer vacation from their jobs.  I picked up a job at Cracker Barrel for some extra money I knew we would need for the new house, so I worked this summer too.   We mostly spent our free time working on the house and yard.

We tried to get one day to have a family day, but it didn't happen.  How sad is that?  Not one day we could all have off together.  Yesterday my 20 year old, Daniel had the day off and so did I.   We had ourselves a Mom/Dan Day.  It was great.

We headed up to the White Mountains for a day of hiking.

It was a super gorgeous day.  We had a blast.

Dan couldn't resist diving into the icy cold mountain swimming hole.

I long for more days like this.  I blinked and my kids grew up.  But I love the grownups they are becoming.
